A Brief History Of Water-Powered Cars

Can people really run cars on water? Is it smart to convert your vehicle to run on both gasoline and water? These are some concerns many people have when they hear about water powered cars.   • By 1875 the writer Jules Verne in his book The Mysterious Island, wrote the following passage:
  • “Water decomposed into its primitive elements, and decomposed doubtless by electricity, which will then have become a powerful and manageable force. Yes, my friends, I believe that water will one day be employed as a fuel”.

Jules Verne also predicted many “impossible” inventions, which are now modern conveniences such as scuba tanks, batteries, flashlights, and plastic.

Where was water power in the 1900’s?

  • Yull Brown found the largest success. In 1974 Brown patented his design of an electrolyzer used to produce a perfect mixture of hydrogen and oxygen gas. He was inspired by Jules Verne’s vision of water used as fuel. Because of this inventor the gas formed from water is called “brown gas.” It is the same gas used in modern gas-water burning vehicles.
  • In the early 1990’s many international scientists were beginning to experiment and refine Brown’s technology. This has created many independent research groups and products around the world.

Now?

  • The “Brown” technology is being used to supplement gasoline-powered vehicles. By installing electrolyzer kits on gasoline burning vehicles run more efficiently.
